Undergraduate Program

Queen's Civil Engineering Responding to the Challenge

Civil Engineering is a challenging profession with a broad field of study.

We have developed an innovative program with a choice of emphasis on either the infrastructure or the environmental fields.

We have redesigned our courses:

  • to encourage self learning,
  • to develop a strong base of infrastructure and environmental knowledge,
  • to emphasize communication, leadership, teamwork and problem solving skills, and,
  • to develop positive attitudes and values towards environmental, social and professional ethics.

Courses are interesting and challenging with an emphasis on small class sizes and individual attention. Through the introduction of "short courses" we are able to provide our students intensive sessions in such subjects as problem solving, project management, teamwork and leadership, and communications. Experts from industry are invited to take part in all courses, giving the student the benefit of "real life" experience.

We have established the "Department of Civil Engineering Job Network" to help students achieve their career goals by increasing their exposure to industry and giving them access to a large variety of national and international engineering companies. Our coordinator actively recruits Civil Engineering companies and helps students with cover letters and resumes. It is important to us that our education is as practical as it is academic. In addition, we offer an internship program that gives you the opportunity to work in industry after second or third year for a 12 to 16 month period.
