Biomass to Bioenergy - Hydrothermal Conversion

Project Description:

  

Investigating the production of H2-rich fuel gas through the catalytic supercritical water gasification and crude bio-oil through hydrothermal co-liquefaction of wet biomass feedstocks such as peat, forest/agricultural crop residues, livestock manures and organic municipal solid waste. The study assesses the feasibility of using these wet biomass feedstocks and determine the optimal operating conditions. The project, which was initiated in September 2007 represents a collaborative effort with Dr. Charles Xu (NSERC IRC/FPInnovation in Forest Biorefining) at the University of Western Ontario and the Thunder Bay Water Pollution Control Plant and was funded through an OCE Atikoka Bioenergy Research Centre Award.
